Showcase Sunday #57

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme held by Books, Biscuits and Tea. It allows fellow bloggers to show off any books or bookish things they've compiled over the week.

I don't even know where to start with my week. It was a week of some great highs and one very very very low. Which also left me not having the time or want to post anything on the blog this week. Alright, let's keep it happy for a moment. Toronto had a great week for author events. And I didn't even go to all of them. First off, Veronica Roth and Tahereh Mafi came to the Chapters right by my house. The event had some pretty strict rules, but I got my wristband and a perfect spot to watch the discussion. In fact it was so perfect that I was hanging out with Ransom Riggs and some HCC Frenzy staff. So cool. There wasn't any posed photography allowed but I did get some books signed.

Becca Fitzpatrick was also in the area promoting her new book Black Ice. Although I wasn't a fan of the that book, I am a huge fan of her Hush,Hush series. So of course I needed to meet her and get my books signed. It was actually busier than I thought it would be. But that's okay. I got a chair and was one of the first ones to get my books signed after her little discussion. She's super nice and funny. And her hair. I want her hair.
This is where my week took a turn. We had to put one of my dogs down. This isn't my first time loosing a pet, but this might have been the hardest one yet. They are my family. Some of my closest friends. Oreo was 15, which is a great age for a dog. She's been with me for half of my life. So it was very hard to let go. It was also very sudden, which unfortunately did not give us time to say a proper good-bye. But she's not suffering and I will remember my very poufy, very opinionated, very beautiful and very sweet girl for all the love and joy she brought into my life. RIP Oreo. I love you so very very much.
Sorry about that. Let's move on to books. Of course there's books. Actually they're all new releases this week. My fave. And I've actually read a good portion of these already.

Purchased
Chapters
My True Love Gave to Me:Twelve Holiday Stories by Stephanie Perkins: Obviously I needed this one. So many of my favourite authors. Perfect December read.
Snow Like Ashes(Snow Like Ashes #1) by Sara Raasch: This one has been high on my wishlist ever since I heard about it earlier this year. So of course I picked it up as soon as I could.
The Young Elites(The Young Elites #1) by Marie Lu: I'm a big fan of her Legend trilogy, so of course I was also picking up the start to her new fantasy series right away.
The Lost Hero: The Graphic Novel by Rick Riordan & Robert Venditti: I love the Heroes of Olympus series, and I love graphic novels. Easy buy.
Rowdy(Marked Men #5) by Jay Crownover: Do you know how happy I was to see this out 4 days early? It was just the comfort read I needed on Friday. I love, love, love this NA series. And I devoured this book.

  2. Omg, the author signings! Tahereh Mafi, Veronica Roth & Becca Fitzpatrick in one week? You're so lucky! I agree, Becca Fitzpatrick's hair is awesome.
I'm so sorry to hear about Oreo. Losing pets is awful :(
I have a review copy of Snow Like Ashes that I need to read. It's definitely next on my list! And I'm still SO JEALOUS that you've read Rowdy! It needs to hurry up and be released already! Oooh, Heroes of Olympus graphic novels? I must have them.

  3. I'm so sorry to hear about Oreo. I still remember the Sheltie I lost years ago. It was like losing my best friend. I hope you're doing okay.

You got some great books and what fun to meet such great authors. Have a good week!

  4. When Mafi and Roth get together it's like fashion week :D Awesome haul!
So sorry about your dog. :( I had to put one down after we had her for 2 years only - she got sick because of previous neglect (we adopted her from her rescuer) so it was really harsh. It'll get better ;) *hug*

  5. I'm so sorry to hear about your poor dog! I was so upset when I had to have my cat put down, she was only 11 and it was very unexpected and sudden. They definitely become a part of the family and it's really hard to say goodbye and get used to not having them around. *hugs*

I am very jealous of the amazing author events you seem to get in the US. I don't feel we get nearly as many here in the UK, especially not for most of the authors I love. I am glad you had a good time and got so many books signed.
