Top Ten Tuesday: Books I'd Give To Readers Who Have Never Read New Adult

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme held by The Broke and the Bookish.

This weeks topic is:

Top Ten Books I'd Give to Readers Who Have Never Read New Adult!

Since this week we got to pick the genre or subject matter of the book, I went with new adult for a few reasons. I think it's one that a lot of people are a little weary to pick up because they think they're books that consist of nothing but sex. And sure, they are a lot of those type of new adult books out there. But there is also so many that are well rounded and offer a little of everything. Why I love the new adult genre is because it's about young adults, early to mid-twenties, trying to navigate through life. Figure out being an adult. And that will consist of dating, sex, friends, school, jobs, money, living by yourself and for good measure a horrible traumatic experience of some sort. Some of them are deeper than others. Well some are more on the lighter side. Either way, these are the ones I fully enjoyed and I think wouldn't taint a new reader to the genres opinion and hopefully new found love of them.

10. Breaking Nova

I have a strong love for Jessica Sorensen. And Nova was what started it all. Now this is a trilogy. And the first two books are pretty dark. Drugs play a big part. But I think Sorensen does a fantastic job of giving you this gritty story, showing you this dark and scary side but also how there's hope.

9. Boomerang

This is just a pretty light and fun read about young interns competing for the same position but also trying to deal with their extreme attraction to each other.

8. Losing It

Losing It is also a pretty fun read. About a girl in her last semester of college. She's still a virgin and is trying to not be ashamed of that. But after a close call and an almost one night stand with a guy she meets in bar, who she happens to find out the next day will her TA for a semesters class. They deal with their intense attraction for each other in a very realistic way and everything that comes along with falling for a teacher. This is also a companion series.

7. On Dublin Street

This is another great companion series that deals with couples trying to make it work. There's always this deep attraction to start off, but with life and past experiences catching up. The new relationships take big hits and they've got to figure out if in the end is it worth it to make it work. I think the characters, setting and writing of this series is so enjoyable that even though the story concepts aren't new, those three things make the books stand out.

6. Slammed trilogy

Reading anything by Colleen Hoover will never be a disappointment. I just think the easiness but emotional at times, Slammed trilogy would be the best of her books to start with. It starts off as student falling for a teacher kind of book but grows so much from there. It's not gross in any way because Will is still in his early twenties and finishing college. He's just taken a teaching job as young as it because of life reasons. The relationship development is fantastic, but also family plays a huge part. And you don't find that a lot.

5. Rule

The Marked Men series might not be absolutely every one's cup of tea. But I think it's easy for a lot of people to fall into it. You've got a bunch of scary on the outside looking guys. They're inked up with piercings, a little intense. But they are so lovable. They've had hard lives, but they're making a change for the better. Especially when they meet this kick-ass, tough ladies who show them a thing or two. And I just need to find myself a tattoo shop to hang out at. Lol.

4. Easy

Easy packs a good punch. You've got this great mix of romance, love, friendship and drama. With the added bonus of great characters, emotions and writing. There's just so much to this book. Jacqueline follows her asshole boyfriend to college and eventually finds out(through some heartbreak) that wasn't the smartest idea. But things change when she's almost raped and than picks her life back out of the gutter. Oh, and she also starts falling for this mysterious heartthrob of a guy. It deals with real issues with a little bit of a dark side.

3. Wait For You

One of my favourites. The slow burning romance is intense. And if you've ever read an Armentrout book you know what I'm talking about. I love Cam and Avery's relationship so much. They are beyond adorable. Also individually I just want to put them in my pocket and carry them around. I always know when reading an Armentrout book that I'm going to get very strong, banter filled dialogue, I'm going to laugh and I'm going to love all the characters. Wait For You puts this in a college setting with some real life issues for the characters to come to terms with well building on this amazing romance.

2. The Sea of Tranquility

This book is so much that I just don't know how to do it justice. It is freakin' beautiful and heart breaking yet heart warming. The writing and characterization is phenomenal. I'm just going to leave you with this; "I live in a world without magic or miracles. A place where there are no clairvoyants or shapeshifters, no angels or superhuman boys to save you. A place where people die and music disintegrates and things suck. I am pressed so hard against the earth by the weight of reality that some days I wonder how I am still able to lift my feet to walk."

1. Maybe Someday

There was no way I could leave Maybe Someday off this list. I can easily say that this book will be in the top three books I read this year. First off, it's such an unique reading experience. It comes with a soundtrack that was written just for the book. Since music plays such a huge part of the story. You listen along well reading certain parts and it adds this whole other dimension to your reading experience. But this story. This story! I can't say much because of spoilers(there's something imperative to this story that is "revealed" near the beginning of the book that really made this story different). Sydney's world falls apart and Ridge offers her a place to stay. And this is where Hoover explores the dynamics of relationships and love in this thought provoking way. Sydney and Ridge's connection is instant and every one needs to read this book to experience it.

This help anyone? Get anyone wanting to pick up a new adult book? Or what are some of your favourites?

Happy reading!

Brittany

  3. I haven't read any of these because I do have certain images in my head what to expect. I do plan to read some on the list and will give them a chance for sure! I have to see if they're good or bad for myself before I start hating all over them all. :)
    Happy reading!
