I have to say that besides Shakespeare I enjoyed pretty much everything I was made to read. Even more so when we got to pick our own reading material. But than it wasn't forced, so I won't be listing those. Also, I don't really remember what I had to read in grade school(my memory doesn't go that far back), so this is pretty much based off of my five years of high school(yes, we use to have to do five years of high school).
5. The Chrysalids
I'm not sure if this would qualified as dystopian. If I remember correctly it was more sci-fi. Anyhow, don't remember the writing but I do remember really loving the story. There was shapes and powers and mind talking or something.
4. Dracula
Way before Edward I meet a real vampire. Unfortunately don't remember a lot of the story. But I remember getting this and reading it within a few days. Which was weeks weeks before the rest of the class.
3. Of Mice and Men
Poor Lenny. If the term was around back in my high school days, I would say this caused a big case of the feels.
2. Crabbe
I recently decided I wanted to reread this. This was a really epic survival story. Alone in the wild. I believe he broke his leg or something too.
1. To Kill A Mockingbird
The one book I was made twice throughout my school career. Good thing I loved it. With Go Set A Watchman being released it has made me really want to reread it.

I enjoyed a lot of my required reading in high school as well though in my senior year we read a ton of Russians and they were a little challenging. Though the worst one was Joyce's Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man which to this day I still have no idea what that book was about. I loved of Mice and Men and liked To Kill a Mockingbird as well. Great list!
ReplyDeleteTo Kill A Mockingbird is my all-time fav! I really need to read Of Mice and Men!

I really loved Of Mice and Men. I read it for the first time in middle school for fun because my sister was in high school and had to read it. I really liked Shakespeare, but that was more in college when I had a fantastic professor who taught it. :)

The only one of these I was actually required to read was OMAM, and I also enjoyed it! I read Dracula and TKAM of my own accord and loved them. I am desperate to read The Chrysalids because I love John Wyndham!
