From the glittering streets of Manhattan to the moonlit rooftops of Paris, falling in love is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to confront the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren’t always forever.
Their romantic journey is skillfully intertwined with those of beloved couples Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket, whose paths are destined to collide in a sweeping finale certain to please fans old and new.
Like the rest of the world it feels like I've been waiting ten years to get my hands on Isla. Finally I got my grabby little hands on it and devoured it in one sitting. As expected Isla and the Happily Ever After is super adorable and cute. Our favourite previous characters make an appearance and my life starts to make sense again. I'm really hoping Perkins is going to realize how much she wants to write more about these characters and give us a whole new book with all six of them going on an adventure together. Now that would be perfection!
The book starts off right on a bang. Isla runs into Josh at a coffee shop, but the kicker is Isla is high on painkillers and it's absolutely hilarious. I'm thinking great, this book is going to be romantic and funny. Isla is going to be this unintentionally funny girl. But unfortunately the beginning of the book really left me with the wrong impression. Now don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed and devoured Isla and the Happily Ever After. There was a lot right about the book but it was no where near the level of Anna and Lola for me. I really loved that we got Isla and Josh's relationship started pretty quickly. To many YA contemporaries are all about the foreplay and than as soon as the couple finally gets together we're at the last page of the book. I effing hate that! I just didn't swoon over Isla and Josh like I did with Anna and St.Clair and Lola and Cricket. Isla's pretty much been in love with Josh for three years. But that's all been from afar. And it was a little uncomfortable watching Isla pine for Josh, even when they were together. Than it just jumps into total insta-love territory and I was left wondering why Josh feel in love with Isla so quickly. I have no idea why Josh is having these feelings for Isla. He's not very vocal beyond his desires to get in her pants. Okay, there is definitely some swoony moments between them. Like Barcelona. *sigh* But I wanted more. I wanted to know why Josh was falling head over heels for Isla. I wanted him to tell her in words. I wanted Isla to realize that she's no longer in a one-way relationship with Josh. She actually has him and she needed to stop the unhealthy obsessing and jealousy. They just didn't talk to each other. I don't like feeling frustrated over a conflict in a book that can be so easily fixed by opening your mouth and actually talking to the person about it. Why keep it all so secretive? You're in a relationship, so talk about your damn feelings with each other. And if you can't, than you're to immature to be in a relationship. Grow up and deal with grown up feelings like a grown up! Obviously I was feeling a bunch of frustration. To much...
Like I mentioned, Isla started off super funny. Yes, she was technically high. But I'm thinking she's going to be this loopy, nerdy and shy girl. But she'll totally steal it with her independence and brilliance. Sure, she was totally like that at moments. But once Josh was a permanent fixture in Isla's life she kind of became this wet blanket that didn't know who she was except that she knew she had to do everything to keep Josh. That was a little disheartening. I needed Isla to be herself, so Josh could fall in love with this amazing person. But she was so unsure of herself and how Josh could love someone like her. I wasn't expecting that. I didn't get that with Anna and Lola and I know it may be unfair to say, because they are all very different characters, but I expected just so much cuteness with some small little blips along the way.
We kind of got to know Josh in Anna and the French Kiss and I was super excited to get to know him even more that he was going to be the romantic interest. But I don't know, I didn't really feel like I got to know him all that much better. He was still kind of a mystery. I wanted more from him. I really liked the Josh I got. Why couldn't we get more beyond his art? It's weird, I got to know him, but I didn't really now that I think about it. I don't know if that makes sense.
I was also a little disappointed that we didn't get to fall in love with Paris all over again. In Anna it was this amazing secondary character. It's one of the big reasons why I love Anna so much. It was kind of forgotten in Isla though. That made me really sad.
What I lived for though was the moment when I knew I would get to see all the old gang again. And that was definitely the best part of the book. I wanted it to last longer than a few pages. I needed it to. But alas this wasn't their book. Anna and Lola already had their turns. But guys, those few pages are pure bliss. You'll sigh and laugh and smile your face off. God, it was fantastic!
I know this review makes it seem like my rating of the book is totally not making sense. But I assure you I absolutely enjoyed Isla and the Happily Ever After. Perkins doesn't shy away from writing about normal teenage behavior, like sex. Or bringing in a character with difficult social skills(I loved Kurt). She writes everything in a totally realistic and believable way. Dialogue isn't forced. It's so easy. I love her story telling. I love that I could pick up Anna, Lola or Isla and have a total lift in my mood. I love that I can depend on Perkins for that.

(Updated)Bout of Books 11.0 Sign-Up, Goals & Progress
Alright, here's where I state me intentions in participating in Bout of Books 11.0. I definitely suck at readathons. But I want to give it a go. I know I'll be working all week, but I normally read at least five books in a week. So why not try and read seven? I could use a kick in the ass to read a few more books in a week. Okay, so I'm going to do this.
Now for my goals, I'm going to try and read seven books this week. Participate as much as possible in the fun going on through the Bout of Books page and Twitter. As well as cheering any of my friends on that are participating as well.
For my TBR I'm pretty much going to stick with contemporaries and New Adult because I know I can read through those guys the fastest. So here's my plan;

Showcase Sunday #48

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme held by Books, Biscuits and Tea. It allows fellow bloggers to show off any books or bookish things they've compiled over the week.
Hey guys. Good week? It has continued to be a crappy summer here. Rain and cool this week. It seems like I'm not actually going to get my hot and humid weather until I'm away next month. And I totally failed at posting this week. The first half of the week started out good and than I found The Mindy Project and besides work nothing else mattered. #sorrynotsorry. I was also going to post a review/recap of the first Outlander episode yesterday but decided I should be a good Canadian and post it next weekend when the show actually premieres here on Showcase.
Book wise this week, I had a few more Strange Chemistry books arrive. I think there's a few more I'm going to pick up in the next month or so. Also a very small BookOutlet order(surprise) because I found Vicious and there was no way I was passing that up. I also caved and spent to much money on the The Beautiful Series by Christina Lauren. I finally read the first book, Beautiful Bastard and it was complete smut. But holy crap is it addictive and I needed the rest of the series(that's published). So that's how I've spent my weekend. I'm now on the fourth book. :/

Top 5 Wednesday: Love Triangles

Top 5 Wednesday is a meme started by Lainey at Ginger Reads Lainey. Find the list of all the #T5WFamily here.
This weeks topic is:
Top 5 Love Triangles!
I think we all have a love hate relationship with love triangles. A lot can be really annoying, awful and unnecessary. Where there a few that I love because it actually adds something to the story. And both guys are probably top notch. Although I always have my ship. I guess I can't really say much on each triangle today because of spoilers. But these are ones I love. Even the one(s) where my ship sank.
5. Layla, Roth and Zayne from The Dark Elements
4. Alina, The Darkling and Mal from The Grisha Trilogy
3. Celaena, Chaol and Dorian from Throne of Glass
2. Clara, Tucker and Christian from the Unearthly Trilogy
1. Tessa, Jem and Will from The Infernal Devices

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I'm Not Sure I Want to Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme held by The Broke and the Bookish.
This weeks topic is:
Top Ten Books I'm Not Sure I want to Read!
10. Eve Trilogy
I've had the trilogy sitting on my shelf for forever. I was obviously interested at one point. But now I could care less. The reviews seem to be pretty mixed. None of my close book friends have read it, so I don't have a someone I know pushing me in either direction. And with the massive amount of series I have on the go right now I don't really feel like adding another one to the mix. Cutting out time for it.
9. Starcrossed Trilogy
I did read the first book, Starcrossed, when it first came out. I thought it was okay. But by the time the second book came out I didn't remember much from the first book. So I decided to wait for the third book to be released than I would binge the trilogy. That didn't happen. I even pre-ordered the third book. It's another one where I kind of don't care. I remember only liking the first book so at this point do I really want to take the time to re-read that book in the hopes that I'll enjoy the second and third book more than the first? Not so much.
7. Let the Sky Fall
I did start this when it first came out, but I set it down because I found it confusing and all over the place. I figured I'd eventually come back to it and try again. But it's been over a year and I really haven't had a second thought about it. So I think it's safe to say that this book is probably not going to be read. By me at least.
6. Uglies Trilogy
I know this is a very well loved trilogy and I did buy the box set sometime last year with all intent to read them right away. But I didn't. I know it doesn't make a difference, but this trilogy is like ten years old now and let's face it, with all the shiny new ones being released every week this one just keeps getting forgotten.
5. Kingdom Keepers 7:The Insider
Yes, this is the last book in a seven book series. So I know you're thinking just get it over with. But I really disliked the sixth book and I did read the first fifty pages or so of this one and it put me to sleep. The writing and the story has continually gone down hill as the series progressed. I don't even care how it ends.
4. Real
Oh man, this book. I don't understand the ratings, they are so so good. And that's what made me want to read it. But than my good friend, Samantha just read it and was kind enough to share with me some very distributing and baffling scenes. I thank her for reading this book and immediately warning me to stay the hell away.
3. Jane Austen
Is this blasphemy? I feel like I'm going to be shot down now. Here's the thing, I've tried many a times to read her books with absolute zero success of surpassing the first few pages. I'm really not a classics reader, I can't get into the writing and language. I'm a modern girl. I'll continue to try Austen's works in the future since I am forever changing as a reader. But as of right now, I just can't do it.
2. A Game of Thrones
One of my good friends actually gave me GoT years and years ago in high school(this is the cover of my copy; old school). But as a lazy teenager I didn't end up picking it up. Now we're in the time of GoT with the success of the show and I still don't really care. Since you're asking, no I haven't seen the show either. The size of a book doesn't scare me(my favourite series of all time is Outlander and those are beasts), it's just a very long series to have to invest time into and I'm lazy. Whatevs...
1. Gone series
Because I'm stupid, I do own all six books in this series. At least I found them all relatively cheap. Of course I also had planned to binge the series. But now I look at it, all six books of decent size, and my eyes glaze over. Six books. Do I actually care enough to want to read this series anymore? Not really. Laziness wins out again.

8. Struck
I can't remember if I bought this full price(I better not have), but whatever I own it. The premise sounds interesting and cool. But again it comes down to it being another series that I don't really want to invest in. I've also not heard anything about it. Even after I just checked Goodreads to get this picture, most of my Goodreads friends haven't read or reviewed it. So I'm up in the air about this one. Maybe one day.7. Let the Sky Fall
I did start this when it first came out, but I set it down because I found it confusing and all over the place. I figured I'd eventually come back to it and try again. Review: Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn't even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn't want love, she doesn't have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don't expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can't handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.
I bow down to you, Colleen Hoover. See that? My nose is touching the floor. You are the queen. I would read the phone book if you wrote it. Honestly, do you know how to write a story that won't tear my heart out? Something that isn't spectacular? Even when it's a story that's been done before. Your writing, characters and take on the story stand out above all others. Bravo.
Tate is just moving to San Francisco to live with her brother well she gets herself situated with school and her job as a nurse at the hospital. Right away she has a less than desirable encounter with Miles. Miles turns out to be her brother's across the hall neighbour, co-worker and friend. That's like a triple whammy for Tate. Right away she's attracted to Miles but he's a total mystery and sending her these weird signals. That is until Thanksgiving at her parents house where their intense attraction to each other is revealed. Also Miles lets it be known that he hasn't had sex in six years, he doesn't do relationships and he doesn't do love. Tate is a little thrown but she's not looking for a relationship either. Just sex sounds great to her. And they were hardly friends to start with, so what could go wrong? Miles just has a few rules; Never ask about the past and don't expect a future. Easy enough. That is until Tate quickly realizes that she wants to break both of those rules.
Like Hoover's previous novels, this is a romance. But there's also so much more to it. It's almost like there's two stories within the book. Ugly Love is told in alternating chapters. Tate's chapters are the present. Well Miles chapters are from when he was eighteen. You know there's a reason why Miles thinks he can't love someone. Why he doesn't do relationships. And as you read through his past you know it's going to be devastating(it was). Through Tate's eyes you get this intense and hot sexual relationship she's experiencing with Miles. Pretty quickly she realizes she might not be able to handle the rules he set down. It's weird to have no emotional connection beyond the sex with him. They're done and clothes are put back on. The end. The thing is, Tate isn't stupid. She knows she's going to get hurt. But she can't seem to give Miles up. It's a constant emotional internal battle. And it doesn't help that Miles is sending her mix feelings. Eventually she can't keep her mouth shut much longer and everything explodes. Miles past eventually catches up to his present and he has to actually come to terms with it. The amount of times I wanted to punch Miles in the face and be like, "dude, open your bloody eyes!" "Stop being such a pratt!" "Open up to Tate already!" It was super frustrating. Sure I sympathized with Miles and can understand why he feels like love is better left out of his life. But when you find the person who can change that all for you, than let them in. Stop being scared and life your life. Like Hoover so rightly named this book, love can get ugly. Both Tate and Miles experience just how ugly it can get.
Ugly Love feels more mature than Hoover's previous novels. Maybe that's because there's a lot more sex scenes. But that fits with Tate's and Mile's relationship and the story of the book. Maybe it's because Hoover's writing has more prose to it. I felt it was a little reminiscent of Tahereh Mafi(no strike outs thank God). Either way Hoover still knows how to shatter my heart. My feelings weren't as messed up as Maybe Someday left me but it's still taken me about two weeks to try and write a somewhat coherent review. I still feel like I can never do a Hoover book justice. They're something you have to read yourself to understand the emotions she packs into them. She is a word wizard that I kind of wish was a robot so she could release a new book for me every week. That would be a perfect life.
On a side note, I've also now realize how hot pilots are and am going to start hanging out at the airport. ;)

Showcase Sunday #47

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme held by Books, Biscuits and Tea. It allows fellow bloggers to show off any books or bookish things they've compiled over the week.
Do you guys judge me? I feel like I'm being judged. This crazy girl and her ridiculous amount of book acquiring. She'll never read them all. Her TBR must be massive. Well yes, probably not and yes. But whatever. I have a problem and I know it. At least this is a positive problem. At least I'm getting high on words. :D
This was a big week for releases. Since I already read Ugly Love Tuesday was for Opposition. Which of course I devoured. And went into a small hangover from. I also found Isla and the Happily Ever After out early. So I devoured that one as well. In fact, a few books I have this week I've already read. Great success! Far From You Samantha told me to buy. So I did. I finally caved and bought that beautiful cloth bound edition of The Hobbit. I have quite a few editions but I needed this one. In fact The Lord of the Rings will soon be my possession. I can't hold off any longer. A few books from the Book Depository showed up(still trying to get as many Strange Chemistry books as I can) and the others I wanted to I bought them. That's how it goes. Also, received The Dolls from HCC Frenzy. I'm extremely excited for it. It sounds kid of southern gothic.
