Reader Problems TAG

Reader Problems TAG created by Tiffany at About to Read . Find the original video here.

I was tagged by Charnell at Reviews From A Bookworm. Thanks Charnell. I think my answers will be pretty similar. :)

1. You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next? I stand in front of my shelves and stare until my eyes glaze over. Usually I do have some sort of review schedule I'm sticking to. But when I get to pick any book, than I will go on mood. I am definitely a mood reader. Or whatever jumps out at me. I have a TBR jar, but don't use it. Why I still have it, I don't know. My owned(physical) TBR is at about 250 right now. Which is a little intimidating, but I'm not too worried. I'll get to them eventually.

2. You're halfway through a book and you're just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed? I'm all for DNF'ing. I have far, far, to many books on my TBR to continue reading a book that I care nothing for. If I'm pushing myself to get to the next page than it's not worth my time. There are instances where I will finish a book that I'm hating on. But that's more because it's so bad I just need to see how awful the ending will be. There's a lot of skimming involved in those cases though.

3. The end of the year is coming and you're so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how? Because I am so awesome, I've never been behind on my reading challenge. I'm usually so far ahead. Haha!
If I was behind than whatever. I'm not really too concerned with it. I've always set my goal at a number I know I can reach. And if I don't it is not the end of the world.

4. The covers of a series you love do not match. How do you cope? *punches all the things* Why do publishers do this to us? WHY? It's the worst thing in the world.
I get over it. I've pretty much learned not to buy the first book in a new series until I see the second book is released. At that point, we're usually in the clear on the cover change front. But if my covers don't match, it is what it is. I'm a little more concerned about the series being the same edition and height.

5. Everyone and their mothers love a book you really don't like. Who do you bond with over their shared feelings? I've happened to be the black sheep on quite a few popular/well loved books(The 5th Wave, The Selection, etc...). I don't really care because I've loved plenty of books that quite a few others have not. If I write a review that can sometimes start a discussion on the blog or Goodreads. Or if I really need to vent my feelings I'll take to Twitter or Instagram. Usually I can someone that feels my feels there. If not I'll vent to myself and I happen to be a fantastic listener.

6. You're reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal? I can't even count the amount of times I've cried at work. Unexpectedly cried at work. One of my co-workers will look over with a weird look and be like, "are you crying?" Me, "Yes I am! I can't believe so and so just died! This is the worst I've ever felt!" Co-worker continues to stare because they just don't get it. Brittany crawls into the back room.

7. A sequel of a book you love just came out, but you've forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!? Let's not even discuss how many series I'm in the middle of right now. Just ignore that number... Anyhow, it's all based on the situation. I will re-read the previous book(s) if I love the series or I just remember absolutely nothing. If I'm not up for doing a re-read and I want to read the sequel I'll check around for recaps and in depth reviews. These days I'm more for marathoning a series. I enjoy that much more.

8. You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people no when they ask? Person, "Can I borrow Outlander?" Brittany stares at person for an uncomfortable amount of time. Person, "Uh, Brit? Can I please borrow Outlander?" Brittany stops blinking well she stares at person. Person eventually becomes too weirded out and walks away.
I don't really have any reader friends. One of my co-worker reads a few books a month, and most of them are on my recommendation. I also will randomly set a book of mine on her desk a few times a month. She's pretty much the only person that borrows my precious babies. Mostly because I trust her and when she did spill ice cream on one of my books, she just flat out bought me a new one without me asking her to. *high-five Chris*

9. Reading ADD. You've picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump? Take to Netflix. Binge some T.V. shows instead. Which I did this month. There was a good week where I read nothing. It was weird, but I didn't really care. I was too invested in the shows I was watching to notice my lack of reading. And if I don't feel like watching a show than I'll re-read a favourite. That always works.

10. There are so many new books coming out that you're dying to read! How many do you actually buy? All of them. I will buy all the things.

11. After you've bought the new books you can't wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them? Any amount of time. I've have books on my shelves that have been sitting there for years. *shrugs* I am getting better though. I recently did a thorough cleaning on my cases. I cleaned about 200 books off. A lot of them unread. I'd just lost interest in them. And as far as buying new books, I've really calmed down. I'm not on a ban but I'm only buying books I'm reading right away. I am really going to try getting my huge TBR down.

I guess I could tag a few of my peeps. Let's see what their answers are.

  1. Thanks for the tag! I am too lazy for a post, I'll just answer here :D

I have a sort of reading schedule but lately I haven't read much at all because I am in a slump and too busy to get on it, so I am just mood reading at the moment. I try to make ARCs a priority but sometimes I am just too lazy.
And I quit as well if the book is not pulling me in. A few times I read it through but I've learned not to feel guilty if I don't finish something I dislike.
I had the whole end-of-year thing happen in 2014 and I was too far behind to manage a catch up. A few years back I tried it and barely made it, but I've learned it's not worth forcing books on yourself just to fit a silly goal like that.
The covers not matching is just murder... I have a bunch of those and I hope I'll slowly change that! :X
As for hyped books, I have a reservation towards those because of the hype itself - I haven't liked a bunch of hyped books and I don't really care what people think. ;)
I usually read on the bus and if I do get teary, I stare out the window or fake sleeping. Or maybe stop reading for a moment until I am home hahaha :D
I don't usually read before sequels or something, unless it takes years for it to come out. I think I'll have to reread ASoIaF because I am more or less clueless after 3 years! :X
I just don't offer my books to anyone. I let a friend of mine borrow GoT (signed!) and he had it for ages, he didn't even read it, and then luckily it got to me back safely. I have had bad experience where I let someone borrow one of my faves and it came back all weird like he chewed it and flushed it and then handed it back. So I just don't offer and that is it. I don't have many bookish mates so no worries there. As for the slump, I am still figuring this one out. :D I have had a bad one for months now so we'll see how it goes.
I just buy stuff all the time. It's gotten easier now because I stopped with ARCs and am not 100 % in the loop of new books, which if for the best. I need to cool down! :D
I have unread books from like 2009 or 2010 so it can take a really long time before I read them! :X I am the worst at this...

  2. We have a lot in common in terms of our reading habits I think! The borrowing books - especially beloved books - even the idea causes me pain. I feel like I should take some kind of deposit from them to ensure that it comes back in one piece. This includes my children! I have so many unread books that have been sitting there for years. I'm afraid to count but like you I don't stress too much. I'll get there eventually!
