Weekly Wrap-Up September 12th-18th

This week turned out to be very hectic(also Adventure Time is ruling my life), so I only got three books read. Two physical books; one a graphic novel and the other an ARC. Which means one e-book borrowed from my library.

One by Sarah Crossan ****
I should have already reviewed this. But life got in the way. So a review won't go up until I'm back from my trip; in about two(ish) weeks.

Saga Vol 5 by Brian K. Vaughan ****
The best graphic novel series most definitely. Although this volume was not as good as the previous four, I still really enjoyed it. I think this one was the lull before the storm. But now the series is on hiatus so I don't know how long I'll be waiting for volume six.

Dumplin' by Julie Murphy ****
So this was one really hyped up book before its release this week. And although I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was no blown away. I could definitely relate with Willowdean. Weight, insecurity and body issues are all something that we all feel. Some more than others. But I loved how body positive this book was. Willowdean was pretty secure in her body. But still showed how insecurities, especially when you start dating, can arise. All issues were dealt with in a really realistic and relatable way. My few issues were Willowdean's decision making at times(I know she's a teenager, but still). I didn't like how she handled or didn't handle Mitch and his feelings. It was kind of not wrapped up well. I also would have liked a bit more from the ending. I can see why that was a good place to end it. I didn't hate it. I just wanted more. But overall a fun, body positive read.

  1. I still have Mindy Kaling book envy. I read her first book and loved it but I definitely want to get the audio. I loved Tina Fey's Bossypants in audio but reading it wasn't nearly as great so I know I'd love Mindy's in audio. I felt the same way about The Storied Life of AJ Fikry that you felt about Dumplin'. I enjoyed it and thought it was a nice story but I wasn't nearly as blown away as so many other people seemed to be. Have a great week! (and get better soon!)
