Now that the ley lines around Cabeswater have been woken, nothing for Ronan, Gansey, Blue and Adam will be the same. Ronan, for one, is falling more and more deeply into his dreams and his dreams are intruding more and more into waking life. Meanwhile, some very sinister people are looking for some of the same pieces of the Cabeswater puzzle that Gansey is after...
This is going to be more of a discussion then a review.
This book is a very hard book to describe and an even harder book to put into coherent thoughts.
A lot going on won't make sense. And definitely don't expect answers. Few things will be fully explained, if at all. That's not a terrible thing. It just means that we're probably going to have to wait until the last book in the series to become un-confused (hopefully).
I really did enjoy this book. Found it much better than the first one. I took my time reading it. Which I think is necessary. You can't jet through this book. Skim read. You have to take your time. Process the words you're reading. Makes it a little easier on brain.
Stiefvater definitely has a distinct writing voice. She's a lyrical word wizard. Her descriptive writing just slips into your imagination. There's no work for you. The image easily appears in your head as you're reading along. And that's why she's one of my favourite writers. Just brilliant writing.
Although, it's unfortunate that a thesaurus threw up all over her pages. Found that a little unnecessary and coming off a little pretentious. It makes sense to an extent with this story and characters, but I felt it got a little much as I was progressing.
Now here comes the spoiler bit. So BEWARE!
- Guh! Adam! There was no love coming your way. It was just so super easy to hate you. You need some redemption in the next book.
- What made this book better for me is that Ronan is the main focus. He's definitely my favourite Raven Boy. His personality is dark and kind of bi-polar. But his caring and loving bites sneak out once and a while. Which makes me want to hug him even more.
- We also delve right into Ronan's ability to pull objects from his dreams. We find out what he's called and that his dad could do it too. And that he's actually pretty powerful (once he starts to understand this power). BUT it also makes my brain hurt. I think I'm catching on but really once the book ends I'm just left with a hell of a lot more questions then answers. So he can talk to his dreams? Control all the nightmares? What?!
- Kavinsky! The whole Kavinsky/Ronan plot was by far the most interesting part of the book for me. Hell, I don't really know what the whole point of Kavinsky was. I felt like I was on some acid trip well reading his parts. But I liked it. Also, he's not a Greywaren like Ronan. So is he just a dream walker? What's the difference?
- Noah. Awwww. He was my comic relief. Quite a few LOL moments with him.
- Blue and Gansey. You are going to get yourselves into a bad spot in the next book. But I can't say I won't be smiling when it finally happens. Then I'll probably have a moment of OH NO right after.
- The Gray Man. WTF was your purpose?! Just to charm Maura? Kill a few random people? Am I going to have to wait two years to find out?!
- So is Cabeswater now a separate entity from Glendower? The whole part with Adam and the stones at the end just went right over my head. I thought Adam was turning into Glendower? No? Where is the ley line going?
So needless to say my mind is boggled. But there's no way I'm the only one. Right?
Read The Dream Thieves too; let's chat below! Help each other out. If that's even possible.
Happy reading!
